Let Go...Be Happy!

“Learn to let go.  This is the key to happiness.”  - Buddha

Whether in creative exploration or life in general, is complete control necessary, or even possible?  Are “control freaks” the happy ones?  I’m seriously skeptical.  Control is only an illusion, especially when it comes to controlling other people or situations outside ourselves.  At best, we have control of our own responses.

So why not let go creatively?  There could be many “happy accidents” in your future.  When I was painting, I found most of the magic (the visual equivalent of what quilters say about a piece when it “sings”) happened spontaneously.  The challenge was not to overwork a piece to the point that the happy accidents were lost and the piece looked “tight” or controlled.  With much observation and practice, those happy accidents can be recreated, but they seldom happen from the very beginning if the freedom isn’t there.  So, as Buddha says, learn to let go!  Go ahead, be happy!
