What's New?

Do You Know the Puffin, Man?

Here they are – Marilyn’s puffins!  Aren’t they great!  The stitching and fabric selection really should be seen in person to be fully appreciated, so you’ll just have to take my word that the free motion quilting, white-on-white and black-on-black prints were so well done and just the right touch.  And, as I said previously, the fabric she found for the sky was perfect.  Now that you see it, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Marilyn is such an adventurist, I’m certain she’ll catch up with puffins in real life one of these days.  She’s had at least one close call, but no actual sightings.  You wouldn’t know it from the way she’s captured their happy personalities in this piece.

Maybe next time I’ll be able to share some of AQF Elaine’s thread painting pieces.  They’re really beautiful, very well done, and worth seeing.

Have You Seen the Pumpkins, Man?

Here’s another “fast art” piece I finished up last night.  It’s of a decent size, 17” x 26”, and came together fairly quickly.  It could have been finished in a couple days, but I only worked on it intermittently this weekend between other things.  Something about placing the bits and snippets of fabric, almost like painting, that makes it come together soon enough.  And, there’s no muddying of over mixing or applying layer over layer of paint.

The background is upholstery fabric with a woven pattern.  I thought it played well with the notion of pumpkin vine tendrils so I tried to quilt around the pattern for emphasis.

Are You Happy, Man?

In having lunch with my sister this weekend and discussing life (and death!), among other things, we came to a shared conclusion:

Happiness isn’t having everything you could ever want or need; it’s realizing you could be content without as much or as little as you already have.

Try that on for size.  Does it ring true for you?  I’m figuring out how to reconcile that with feeling like I have too much and it’s time to pare down.
